Ernesto La Mattina, who graduated with honors in Electronic Engineering from Università di Palermo, is responsible for the Data-Centric AI research unit within the AI & DATA R&I laboratory of Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. He has extensive experience in Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Big Data Analytics, and Multimodal Information Fusion.

For several years, he has participated in and coordinated numerous research projects characterized by close collaboration among institutions, industry, and the research community, with the aim of developing advanced technological solutions to support the fight against organized crime and terrorism.

He currently coordinates the ARIEN project (Artificial Intelligence in Fighting Illicit Drugs Production and Trafficking). Previously, he served as coordinator of the LAGO project (Lessen Data Access and Governance Obstacles) and, in recent years, has led the AIDA, ANITA, DANTE, TRILLION, and H2020-FCT projects. He has also held a key role in the European projects STARLIGHT, GRACE, SURVANT, and LASIE.
